Is the Overturning of Roe vs. Wade Leading To a Two-Tiered Justice System? (Guest: Michael Letts)

Is the Overturning of Roe vs. Wade Leading To a Two-Tiered Justice System?

As you may have seen last week, the United States Supreme Court recently overturned the 1973 Roe vs. Wade ruling that “legalized” abortion. With its overturning, it’s now up to the individual states to set rules for whether abortion will be allowed or not.

However, the fallout from the decision has become widespread, with thousands of protestors taking the streets and violent acts breaking out across the country. However, from this, there appears to be pressure coming from certain politicians asking for pro-choice demonstrators to be treated “above the law.” As a result, there could be a two-tiered justice system, one that punishes certain criminals to an extent, while treating those that are firebombing pro-file counseling centers as out of reach from prosecution.

In a recent commentary piece, Michael Letts, who serves as founder and CEO for InVest USA, explained that this could be a huge problem if the scales of justice aren’t properly balanced.

“If our judicial system, including law enforcement, does not quickly and forcefully condemn the actions of these pro-choice activists, we will demonstrate what many Americans are already beginning to see and fear, that we have a two-tiered justice system, something usually associated with a third-world dictatorship, not in the land of the free and the home of the brave!”

Letts joins us now to discuss this commentary piece, and what he fears could come from a two-tier justice system.

Q&A:

  1. What do you think drives pro-choice activists and demonstrators to so loudly proclaim their stand on abortion? Do you believe some may be taking their freedom of speech a bit too far?
  2. What do you believe was the biggest thing that kept Roe vs. Wade in place for so long?
  3. Do you think the sides will calm down anytime soon, or do you believe the protesting and violence will get worse as the summer goes on?
  4. You’ve noted that a two-tiered justice system could become possible, where some protestors get special treatment over typical criminals. Do you really believe that some politicians would go so far to put this in place?
  5. Let’s say you were in control of decisions leading up to Roe vs. Wade and what you could possibly do to quell the concerns of those on the pro-choice side. What actions would you take to not only assure balance, but possibly peace? (If any can still be found.)
  6. Where can we learn more about your InVest USA organization?
