The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the ongoing attempts for the two sides to reach some form of deal for hostages and peace.
Following a series of attacks meant to kill Hamas military commander Muhammad Dief, it appears that Hamas is still ready to discuss some kind of ceasefire with Israel.
In the 284th day of the conflict between the two sides, the Times of Israel reported that an Israeli negotiation team is headed out to secure some kind of deal with Hamas, in an effort to free several of its hostages.
Hamas is reportedly considering pushback on its military front, something that could cause the ceasefire talks to fall through. This, along with the changing stance of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leaves the question of whether a deal can even be reached.
Here to discuss this situation today is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
Q&A:
- From your perspective, do you believe that a ceasefire deal can even be reached at this point?
- Many are pointing fingers at both Israel and Hamas over the inability to reach a deal. Who do you believe is really to blame for its previous failures?
- Do you believe international parties may need to come in to help reach a deal? Like the United States has been trying to do over the past few months?
- If a ceasefire deal is not reached, what do you think will happen between Israel and Hamas in the months ahead?
- If former President Donald Trump and his Vice President nominee J.D. Vance are elected into office this November, could they potentially make a difference with support? Even more so than Biden has?
