HHS Memo Shows Biden Admin Attempt to Undo Trump-era Religious Liberty Protections

News organizations are reporting that a Health and Human Services (HHS) internal memo details plan to roll back Trump-era religious liberty protections this week.

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra is considering revoking the authority the Trump administration delegated for the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) to prevent violations of religious liberty. Could it be because President Trump got more pro-life and religious liberty wins than any other Republican president before?

The HHS draft memo targets two actions related to the First Amendment protections and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which prohibits federal infringements on the free exercise of religion.

More broken promises from the Biden Administration: during his confirmation hearing, Becerra affirmed that he would protect religious liberty. Oklahoma Senator James Lankford questioned Becerra during a Senate Finance Committee hearing in June 2021 on why Becerra is working to eliminate the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division within the Office for Civil Rights at HHS.

Discussion Points:

·     What happens to Americans’ health choices if HHS removes the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division within the Dept. of Health and Human Services?

·     It seems like the federal government is at war with Christians in America, why do these actions concern you?

·     You served as a pastor for one of the largest churches in America for 36 years, is there a biblical solution for pastors and Christians in pushing back against the federal government?

·     Can you explain the underlying philosophy behind this assault on our religious rights? Is there a philosophy behind these actions?

·     Your recent book, We Will Not Be Silenced is your courageous response to our culture’s assault on Christianity, what’s next?

Answer: I wrote this book to show how cultural Marxism has permeated the attacks on our history, the deterioration of race relations, attacks on free speech, and the destruction of the family. I emphasize how the church should respond to these cultural challenges with courage and hope. We must stand against destructive legislation; we might not be able to change the culture, but we most assuredly must not let the culture change us.

GUEST: Dr. Erwin Lutzer, author and who served as senior pastor of the historic Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years, and author of the book, “We Will Not Be Cancelled.”
