Governor Phil Murphy’s Fight Against High-Caliber Guns Doesn’t Seem To Focus On the Problem (Guest: Michael A. Letts)

Governor Phil Murphy recently announced an initiative in which he hopes to ban high-powered caliber weapons from the state of New Jersey, including .50 caliber rounds found in military-mounted automatic machine guns. He believes that, by doing so, it could discourage the sale of higher-powered weaponry within the state, in the hopes of quelling rising criminal activities.

However, some believe that this attack on high-caliber weapons lack focus, instead of focusing more on the initiatives that would keep people safe. For instance, allowing the authorization to open carry weapons, or providing police with the gear needed to combat this, instead of trying – and potentially failing – to ban the weapons themselves.

Michael A. Letts knows all about providing what police need to keep safe, as he is the founder and CEO of InVest USA, a company that provides bulletproof vests to officers across the country. He joins us today to talk about what Murphy is doing wrong – and what he should focus on instead.

Q&A

  2. Do you think Murphy is doing enough to keep his own police divisions safe in his state? What more do you think he can do?
  3. High-powered caliber weapons seem to be some of the most relegated in the country right now. Why do you think that Murphy has such a vendetta against them?
  4. Do you believe that providing a measure to allow for open carrying of weapons could make people feel safer in the state? Or is there another approach you would take?
  5. If Murphy’s request somehow gets granted, could this have an effect on other states as well?
  6. Where we can we learn more about your group InVest USA?
