Experts Skeptical of Hamas Claim of Cease-Fire Agreement (Guest: David Rubin)

Hamas claims they have the framework of a cease-fire agreement assisted by Egypt and Qatar. So far, no one from Israel or the United States have confirmed there is any deal in consideration. In fact, Reuters claims an Israeli official denies there is a tenable deal on the table.

The alleged agreement comes as Israel is preparing for a ground invasion of the city of Rafah, the location where Hamas recently carried out a deadly rocket attack that killed four Israeli soldiers.

Some believe Hamas is creating this news of a cease-fire deal in an attempt to delay an Israeli invasion.

David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, has a unique understanding of the complexity of this war and the public relation efforts on both sides. He joins us now to discuss the cease-fire rumor.

Q&A:

1. What do you know about this deal Hamas claims to have agreed to?

2. A number of stories have mentioned the deal without any note of hostages being released. Isn’t that a key part of any deal Israel would consider?

3. Why do you suppose Hamas spread this news? What are they up to?

4. Do you believe the American media acted as a proxy for Hamas on this story, which became the top headline nearly everywhere?

5. AP reported “Palestinians in Rafah erupted in cheers after the Hamas announcement, hoping it meant the invasion would be averted.” If or when Israel sends soldiers into Rafah, will this talk of a cease-fire deal become a PR issue for them?

6. Tell us more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund and how it’s helping people right now.
