COVID-19 Pandemic: Containment, Israel-Style

“I’m not a scientist, but I can certainly discuss all things Israel!”
–David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel

Now upgraded to a pandemic, leaders of nations are struggling to contain the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Nonetheless, the disease is spreading like wildfire.

Extremely active in the fight against this horrible pandemic is the nation of Israel.

Q&A:

Why is Israel at a serious disadvantage when it comes to battling the Corona Virus? Israel is a very small country, about the size of New Jersey, with a relatively dense population, conditions that are conducive to the spread of the virus.

That being said, why is Israel actually very well-equipped to meet the Corona Virus challenge? We are a country that is constantly under attack and under threat of attack from terrorism and war. Because of that, we have learned to be extremely disciplined in times of crisis and to follow instructions from the relevant authorities.

What is the latest controversial step taken by the government of Israel to stop the spread of the disease? While the entry to Israel from about ten countries is now absolutely barred, the new order mandates that anyone trying to enter from any other country in the world has to be quarantined for 14 days. The has effectively halted any visitors from entering the country, and all returning Israelis, as well, are now required to self-quarantine.

Israel is also a very creative and scientifically advanced country. Is it true that Israeli scientists may soon have a vaccine? Yes, a team of Israeli scientists believes that they are very close to discovering a vaccine that will end this horrible crisis. After four years of research, they have discovered a vaccine for the Coronavirus that affects poultry, and since the genetics of the poultry coronavirus are highly similar to the coronavirus found in humans, and that it uses the same infection mechanism, it just needs to be adapted for humans.

How long will this process take? The goal is to produce the vaccine over the next six weeks and then achieve safety approval in 90 days.
