Could Congress Members Potentially Use the Potential Government Shutdown To Pass Ridiculous Gun Laws?

Gun Owners of America spokesman Sam Paredes and Stephen Willeford discuss the potential disaster that could come from the government’s possible moves.

A possible government shutdown is looming, set to take place at the end of this month unless some kind of agreement can take place. And it’s likely that the Biden Administration will find a compromise, given it’s a very crucial election season.

It’s the solution they find, however, that could be of concern.

With only three weeks to go till the end of the month, it’s possible a Continuing Resolution (CR) could be passed, providing temporary funding as Congress researches full funding at a later date.

Now…what happens if the spending bill is postponed until right after the 2024 election? As in, a period in which politicians no longer have to worry about voters?

We could see a repeat of what happened in 202, when then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi tried to pass a number of anti-gun provisions in the government funding bill during what was deemed the “lame duck session.” She later lost her seat to the Republican House authority, but the fact she tried indicates that someone – perhaps even Presidential nominee Kamala Harris – may be willing to do the same.

As a result, sweeping gun control measures could enter the desperate funding bill, creating what some call a “doomsday scenario” for private gun owners. What can be done about this?

Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” who serves as the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, joins us now to discuss this decision – and why it wasn’t necessary in the first place.

Sam Parades, another Gun Owners of America spokesman, is also available to speak on this subject, serving as Executive Director of the Gun Owners of America.

Q&A:

  1. Is it possible that Kamala Harris or another member of Congress could try to pass gun provisions into a new government funding bill out of desperation?
  2. What would this mean for private gun owners as a whole?
  3. What motivated Pelosi to try and do such a thing back in 2022? Is this a desperation ploy? Or just a guarantee that certain measures would go through before certain people are removed from office?
  4. What does this say about Harris’ beliefs on gun control? If elected, what kind of havoc could this wreak on gun communities?
  5. FOR STEPHEN; You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  6. FOR STEPHEN: Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
