Concealed Carry Reciprocity Making Progress In House and Senate

Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford explains why this could be a big deal to Constitutional-Carry permit holders and gun owners.

Some big moves were made in the House and Senate this past week that could benefit those that practice Constitutional-Carry – or Concealed Carry, as some call it.

A new legislation was introduced in both chambers of Congress, which would grant national reciprocity to these holders, as well as to residents of states that support Constitutional-Carry that may cross state lines.

This policy, as noted by the Gun Owners of America (who back it completely), “would gut the ability of anti-gun states to restrict residents and non-residents alike from carrying firearms for their personal defense.”

Aidan Johnston, who serves as Director of Federal Affairs, noted, “Congress has the opportunity to deliver the greatest legislative victory for the gun rights movement in a century, and President Trump has already voiced his support. With all 50 states now issuing concealed carry permits, 49 states allowing nonresident carry, and 29 states with permitless or Constitutional Carry. It is simply common sense for Congress to ensure that each state’s concealed carry license is valid in every other state.”

“We thank President Trump for his leadership on this issue and urge Congress to swiftly send Sen. Cornyn’s and Rep. Hudson’s Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act to the President’s desk to be signed.”

Joining us now to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen is the “hero with a gun” from the Sutherland Springs incident in 2017, which he has since co-written a book about. We welcome him to the show!

  2. Why do you believe some states are still fighting against Constitutional-Carry? Are they really that concerned with people potentially carrying firearms in public spaces?
  3. You’ve often discussed how Constitutional-Carry would actually benefit certain places, especially when it comes to fighting against “active shooters” and other criminals. Can you talk about this further?

  5. With Donald Trump returning to the White House later this month, do you believe there will be more support for gun laws to support the Second Amendment?
  6. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
