A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America explains why hunters need to fight back against this unnecessary ban.
The forthcoming election means a number of proposed bills, including some without much thought put into them – like Colorado’s potential ban on mountain lion hunting.
Anti-hunting groups have somehow gotten Colorado Proposition 127 on the November 5th ballot, which could prohibit hunting of mountain lions and bobcats.
However, if passed, the initiative could very well destroy a long running tradition of science-based wildlife management and mountain lion hunting in the state of Colorado.
So why was it put in place? The Gun Owners of America explain, “The Colorado anti-hunting initiative is about more than mountain lions or even a specific state. This attempted ban is a warning to all American hunters that our anti-hunting and anti-gun forces nationwide want to destroy our firearms culture and hunting traditions.”
On top of that, hunting is carefully managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, again, based on science. But if this ban is passed, that could throw everything off. Not to mention that other proposed bans on elk, deer and other animals could be proposed.
A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America is available to speak on this topic.
Sam Parades is available to speak on this subject, serving as Executive Director of the Gun Owners of America.
Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” who serves as the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, is also available.
Q&A:
- Why are anti-hunting groups so concerned about mountain lions being hunted in the state of Colorado?
- You note that science is actually being utilized in terms of how hunting mountain lions is done. Can you discuss that a little bit further?
- If passed, could other bans on hunting other animals be proposed? Could other states potentially consider the idea of similar bans?
- What can hunters do to fight back against this proposed bill?
- You’ve often noted how Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed-Carry as some call it) can actually make streets safer during times of crisis. Explain this further.
- FOR STEPHEN: You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
