China Has Struck Back Against U.S. Defense Companies After an Arms Deal Sale With Taiwan

The Epoch Times’ Nan Su discusses the fallout from the deal, and how this continues to heighten tension between China and the United States.

Tensions between China and the United States had already reached a boil, with ongoing investigations and a number of other scenarios surrounding Taiwan. But now China has provided the latest blow, in retaliation to an arms sale approved back in August 2023.

Per this report from AP News, China has announced sanctions with five American defense-related companies, which will officially freeze any property the companies have in China. In addition, it will also prohibit them from doing any sort of business with them.

These companies include BAE Systems Land and Armaments, Alliant Techsystems Operations, AeroVironment, Viasat and Data Link Solutions.

China noted that the arms deal with Taiwan, worth an estimated $500 million, harmed its own sovereignty and security interests, and also violated the rights of Chinese companies and individuals alike.

“The Chinese government remains unwavering in our resolve to safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and protect the lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens,” the ministry statement said.

This comes just days before the Presidential election takes place in Taiwan, which China is reportedly monitoring very closely.

Joining us now to discuss this matter further is Nan Su, a senior investigative reporter for The Epoch Times. Nan is an expert in all things China, so his knowledge on this subject should be very useful. Welcome, Nan, to the show!
