California’s Restrictive Gun Law Comes Back To Bite Them With a Federal Judge’s Recent Decision

Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford explains why Gavin Newsom’s efforts don’t stand a chance compared to the Second Amendment.

Gov. Gavin Newsom was hellbent in getting his law, Senate Bill 2, passed, and for a while there, it was set to go into effect on January 1st, bringing a number of gun control measures sweeping across California. However, that’s no longer the case.

The law, which would’ve stopped licensed gun owners from carrying their firearms into a number of public places, has been, for the most part, knocked down by a federal judge, who deemed it unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney noted that the law’s “coverage is sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.”

Newsom had been trying to pass more restrictive gun measures in the face of several “active shooter” events, but failed to realize the power of the Second Amendment – and failing to be open to the idea of those that practice Constitutional Carry, or Concealed Carry, in the name of protection.

Here to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, a group that firmly believes in the right for everyone to bear arms. You may recall that he was the “hero with a gun” in the Sutherland Springs incident in 2017, which he has since co-authored a book about.

His expertise in all things gun rights make him an ideal subject for this interview.

Q&A:

  1. Does Gov. Gavin Newsom go too far when it comes to planning out these restrictive gun measures? Does he not even take the Second Amendment into consideration when working on them?
  2. What do you think about the judge’s comments about the law being “sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court”?
  3. How much of a win is this when it comes to those that practice Constitutional Carry or Concealed Carry?
  4. Why do you think that Constitutional Carry or Concealed Carry is an effective solution when it comes to “active shooter” events?
  5. Why is it that Gov. Newsom doesn’t seem to take Constitutional Carry or Concealed Carry into consideration when it comes to creating gun measures? Is he really that concerned about “more guns being on the street”, or something along those lines?
  6. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
