Biden’s Sit-Down With China’s Xi Jinping This Week Needs To Provide Answers On Taiwan (Guest: Nan Su)

The Epoch Times’ Nan Su explains why some details are needed surrounding Jinping’s third term into power.

Following his swearing in for a third term with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), it was announced that Xi Jinping will meet with U.S. President Joe Biden this week, marking the first time they will be meeting since he first took office two years ago.

During the meeting there will be a number of discussions that will take place, including somehow easing conflict between the countries, as well as potential nuclear talks. But one subject that’s sure to arise is Taiwan, as there have been rumors to force it to unite with the mainland. This differs from what that country believes, as it feels it serves a self-governing democracy.

There’s a lot of talk as to what could come from the meeting this week, but some are wondering what issues will arise from it. Here to speak with us now about the matter is Nan Su, who serves as senior correspondent for The Epoch Times. Considering his expertise in all things China (including a previous op-ed pertaining to The ‘One China’ Policy), he’s sure to have some analysis on this meeting.

Q&A:

  1. What do you believe President Biden is hoping to get out of this meeting – and do you think he’ll come up shorthanded compared to his expectations?
  2. What direction do you believe nuclear talks will go? Do you think the two talking will ease friction between the two countries, or remain about the same?
  3. Is there a possibility that Biden has motivation to try and return Taiwan to the United Nations? We know it was initially expelled in 1972, but since it doesn’t consider itself a part of China, there could be talks of returning.
  4. In your article (linked above), you talk about the differences between CCP’s “One China Principle” and the U.S.’ One China Policy. What would you say the biggest differences are for those that may not know the difference?
  5. Do you believe foreign countries will continue to ask questions about China following the meeting with Biden? Especially when it comes to what it’s discussing about Taiwan?
  6. Where can we learn more about you and see your work over on The Epoch Times?
