A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation discusses a new report surrounding the bump in Republican women purchasing weapons.
Last month, reports indicated that there was a massive increase in Republican women purchasing more guns than ever before. But now, the reasoning behind it has been revealed – and it ties in with the Biden/Harris administration.
A new report on Fox News revealed that several of these women were disappointed with these policies.
“Ultimately, we felt unsafe,” noted Katie Pointer Baney, who serves as managing director of government affairs for Delta Defense. “When we see a very porous border, when we see rising violence crime, when there’s general instability in the economy…a firearm is one of the best tools out there in order to protect yourself and protect your family.”
The report shows that gun ownership rates have been growing steadily, holding at 31 percent for the sales period, according to Gallup. That said, however, more women have been purchasing guns than men – again, mostly Republican.
What’s more, Baney also pointed out an increase in attendance for gun classes amongst this particular group. “They are seeing a dramatic rise in women attending the classes, younger women, new moms,” she said. “I’m a new mom myself, so I understand what’s motivating these women. It’s to ultimately be able to protect themselves and protect their families.”
That said, Baney did make note of the growing political divide among gun owners, especially for those that still show support for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. “Gun ownership really isn’t something that should be partisan, yet it often is in political dialogue and conversations,” she said. “We’ve seen less and less Democrats, specifically at the federal level, willing to stand up for Second Amendment rights. So I think that’s now being reflected in the electorate.”
A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America joins us now to discuss the findings of said report.
Q&A:
- Honestly, with everything that’s happened with the Biden/Harris administration, are you surprised to see more Republican women purchasing guns?
- What about men not buying as many guns as women in this particular group? Do they just feel safe, or not feel the need to own a gun?
- What about attendance in gun control classes? Could this possibly increase in the months ahead?
- With Donald Trump returning to the White House this January, could he reverse some of the damage done by Biden/Harris that would make people feel safer? Or will Democrats oppose him enough to keep things uneasy?
- Where do you see gun ownership going in 2025? Could it perhaps increase even further?
- Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
