ATF’s New Rule On Universal Registration Checks Set To Take Full Advantage of Private Gun Owners

Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford explains why the proposed rule could be a serious problem in the future.

It looks like, with the help of President Joe Biden and his administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are once again going after private gun owners – even with the Second Amendment in place.

A new rule has been announced by the group, one that would mandate Universal Registration Checks for purchased guns. However, the rule states that it would be based on any gun sale. And, ultimately, this would be based on the decision by the ATF to see if owners “profited” from them.

A briefing released by the Gun Owners of America notes that, “Under the proposed rule, you would need to become a federally licensed firearms deals (FFL) to sell just a single firearm – even to a friend or a family member!”

As a result, it would “mandate a paper trail for virtually every gun sold in America.”

Though the Biden administration would see this as a win in terms of regulating guns, it goes right up against the rights provided by the Second Amendment – which means someone will likely file a lawsuit against the ATF over the matter.

Here now to discuss this rule further is Stephen Willeford, the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. The “hero with a gun” who saved lives in Sutherland Springs back in 2017 is a proud gun owners, and firmly believes in the right for citizens to bear arms, as the Second Amendment notates. Stephen’s expertise will certainly be helpful here.

Q&A:

  1. What would you say is the biggest problem with the rule that the ATF is introducing here?
  2. It sounds like the rule would help the Biden administration keep track of virtually every gun released on the market. But doesn’t this violate the rights of private gun owners to an extent?
  3. It seems that the ATF has tried to enforce regulations before – only to be knocked down by the Second Amendment and groups that believe in it. Do you believe that will be the case here as well?
  4. If for some reason this rule doesn’t stand, do you believe Biden and the ATF will try to put together some other form of regulation against gun owners?
  5. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  6. Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
  7. Where can we learn more about you, as well as the Gun Owners of America?
