As Couple Leaves Texas To Get Their Abortion, Rev. Jim Harden Makes a Plea To Consider the Child’s Life

The CompassCare CEO discusses the couple’s decision, weighing his own personal thoughts on the matter.

When a child is diagnosed with a condition pre-birth, it’s news that can be earth-shattering to expecting parents. And it’s something that Rev. Jim Harden has had to experience.

He noted in the past how he and his wife were given the news that their child had Trisomy 18, with the doctor providing a very careful diagnosis on how to proceed. However, their child managed to live.

The reason this came about is that it appears that Kate Cox, alongside her husband Justin, had just attempted to get a legal medical exemption for an abortion upon learning their baby was also suffering from trisomy 18, or chromosomal disorder trisomy 18 as it’s more commonly known. Even at 20 weeks pregnant, however, Cox felt it was the right decision, worried about her own health as well.

That said, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton didn’t believe this was the answer, noting that any medical center in the state would face legal consequences if the abortion were performed. For that matter, the Texas Supreme Court that previously ruled in Cox’s favor of the procedure temporarily paused their decision.

As a result, Cox and her family have opted to leave the state in order to get the procedure done. While many are condemning the actions of Paxton and Texas government as a whole, there’s a reason behind their decision making – seeing that, while trisomy 18 could be problematic, as Harden’s situation has proved, it’s not impossible to overcome.

Harden joins us now to discuss the matter further.

  4. What about the doctors who diagnosed that Cox’s pregnancy was “unlikely to end with a healthy baby”? Based on your personal experience, is it worth overcoming the odds?
  5. Where do you see the battle for abortion going as 2024 looms? Could it become a “hot topic” when it comes to the Presidential election?
