Abortion Questions Come Up During Recent Pennsylvania Debate Between Fetterman and Oz (Guest: Jim Harden)

CompassCare’s Jim Harden addresses the answers that came from both Senate candidates.

Earlier this week, a debate took place in Philadelphia between the two Senate candidates, Republican nominee Mehmet Oz and Democrat nominee John Fetterman. There were many topics that were discussed during the debate, but abortion rights was a pretty big one.

Both men addressed their take on their matter, but Oz was a bit careful with his response. When asked if abortion should be outright banned, he noted, “there should not be involvement from the federal government,” but also left an answer that garnered a great deal of criticism.

“I want women, doctors, local political leaders, letting the democracy that’s always allowed our nation to thrive, to put the best ideas forward so states can decide for themselves.”

Fetterman, meanwhile, took a much harder approach, stating he would “fight to re-establish” Roe vs. Wade, which he felt “should be the law.”

“If you believe that the choice of your reproductive freedom belongs with Dr Oz, then you have a choice. But if you believe that the choice for abortion belongs with you and your doctor, that’s what I fight for.”

Here now to discuss these answers is Rev. James Harden. He serves as the CEO of CompassCare Pregnancy Services. He also pioneered the first measurable and repeatable medical model in the pregnancy center movement. He has plenty of thoughts to provide in regards to the answers provided during the debate.

Q&A:

  1. Coming off the comments from the debate, what do you think about what both Oz and Fetterman said about abortion?
  2. Oz seems to have a much more choice-driven answer surrounding debate than most other Republican nominees. Do you think he said that in an effort to win over voters? Do you think they may hurt his chances in the long run?
  3. Fetterman believes there’s a fair chance of “re-establishing” the Roe vs. Wade rule down the line. You believe this could be a dangerous option, why is that?
  4. Fetterman also believes the Roe vs. Wade rule “should be the law.” But you’ve discussed in the past how unruly pro-choice can be in certain situations. Do you believe this is still the case?
  5. You’ve actually spoken in the past about how unruly pro-choice groups have become. We believe there was a small group that was actually responsible for a firebombing of one of your CompassCare locations in Buffalo. Can you tell us more about that?
  6. Has anything come from the investigation of that so far? It seems to be taking a lot longer to find the perpetrators than someone who, say, attacks a Planned Parenthood.
  7. Where can we learn more about CompassCare and its services?
