A Federal Appeals Court Just Deemed a Minnesota Law Against Young Adults Carrying Guns As Unconstitutional

A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation explains why this is a win – and not a lapse in responsibility, as some fear.

Some states have outlandish laws against guns that simply boggle the mind. And Minnesota was one of them, putting restrictions on those under 21 years of age to apply for a permit to carry a gun in public for protection purposes.

However, a federal appeals court recently overturned this law, stating that it was unconstitutional and responsible young adults have the right to appeal for said permit for Concealed Carry.

U.S. Circuit Judge Duane Benton wrote simply enough, “Importantly, the Second Amendment’s plain text does not have an age limit.”

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison noted he was “extremely disappointed” with the decision, citing, “The people of Minnesota want and deserve solutions that reduce shootings and improve public safety, and today’s ruling only makes that more difficult.”

A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation – a group that firmly believes in everyone’s right to bear arms – joins us now to discuss this decision.

Q&A:

  1. What are your thoughts on the Minnesota law regarding guns and younger adults being overturned?
  2. What argument would you have for those that believe young adults shouldn’t be performing Concealed-Carry, at least without a parent’s permission?
  3. Like Minnesota, some other states have outlandish laws that ban guns in some form or another. Why do you believe they’re being so restrictive? Do they believe that is the answer for these “active shooter” events?
  4. Why don’t more states consider the impact of Concealed-Carry citizens? Clearly they make a difference when it comes to stopping some of these shooters.
  5. With the forthcoming Presidential Election, do you believe Trump will push for more fair gun laws, as opposed to Biden’s restrictive beliefs?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
