The Epoch Times’ Nan Su explains what’s happening.
Based on a new report filed by The Epoch Times investigative reporter Nan Su, the country flipped from a “zero-COVID” policy to a “zero non-COVID” policy quite rapidly. This change in pandemic management is leaving hundreds of millions infected with the virus, and without any action being taken by the CCP.
A local official in Shanghai noted last week that instructions indicated that they were to do whatever it took to push the city to “peak status” when it came to COVID. “Let those who are supposed to become positive become positive, and let those who are supposed to die, die,” official Song Wen explained. Anecdotal evidence indicates that 90 percent of Beijing residents are infected with COVID.
But there are two concerns that come from this. The first is that China doesn’t nearly have enough hospital beds to accommodate the millions of sick people from COVID. Secondly, China is looking to reopen travel in and out of the country starting on January 8th. This comes on the heels of Italian officials reporting two flights that had come into Milan last week, with half of their passengers infected with the virus.
Nan Su joins us now to discuss his report further, as well as what’s to be expected in the months ahead.
Q&A:
- So why the change in course from “zero-COVID” to “zero non-COVID”? Is this business as usual for Jinping and the CCP, or is there an agenda here?
- One million cases were reported back on Christmas day last week, though the Chinese national CDC noted just under 3,000 cases reported. How could these report numbers show such stark differences?
- Is there a cause for concern with other countries once China reopens its travel? Could this introduce new variants to countries that have recovered from COVID?
- What about the lack of hospital beds for those that are incredibly sick? How big a problem is this?
- Do you think the United States and other countries could possibly step in to object to China opening up its travel next week, in the midst of some of the worst COVID numbers it’s ever seen? If not, could they possibly set up protocols to avoid mass infection?
- It’s reported that Xi Jinping and the CCP will focus their next session on the economy, as it’s on the verge of collapse following what’s taking place with COVID-19. What do you believe the next steps could be – and will they even respond to the virus if it gets worse than it is right now?
- What do you think about the workplace conditions being reported in Chongqing City and Zhejiang Province, in which employees are being asked to return to work, provided that their symptoms are just “mild”?
- Speaking of what’s going on with China, you recently contributed to a new Epoch Times documentary called The Final War. Tell us more about it and why it’s such a compelling subject with everything that’s happening right now.
