InVest USA’s Michael Letts explains why Foxx’s problematic stay as elected district attorney could cost the city in the long run.
Several states are seeing the after-effects of the “defund the police” campaign, with several officers resigning and crime surging to an all-time high. But things are even worse in Chicago, as many members of law enforcement are leaving due to an entirely different issue – elected district attorney Kimberly Foxx.
A new report from Fox News reveals that more than 235 people have resigned from Foxx’s office since July 2021, including three Cook County Assistant State’s Attorneys, who all resigned on the same day.
The reason? While she remains an accomplished lawyer, Foxx has several problems as district attorney.
“Foxx’s implemented policies that have made Chicago less safe, that have made people feel unsafe and emboldened criminals, and created this new level of in seeing brazenness among criminals that was unimaginable prior to her tenure,” said former Cook County Assistant States Attorney Dan Kirk.
“But I also think that her term in office of state’s attorney has been an abysmal failure from the perspective of what it’s done to the state attorney’s office in recent years. The most senior people have all left the office in this mass exodus, which has been unprecedented. She likes to blame it on COVID, except in every other prosecutor’s office around Chicago and the other neighboring counties have either maintained their size or actually, in many cases, grown.”
There have already been mounting problems in Chicago with dwindled police officer numbers and doubled shifts, as well as the cancellation of vacation days for existing officers. This is in the face of a previous crisis where three officers committed suicide, and Foxx was merely trying to keep things balanced afterward.
Here to speak on this matter now is Michael Letts, who has 30 years of law enforcement under his belt. Letts currently serves as president, CEO and founder of InVest USA, a group that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable organizations and sponsorships. His expertise should prove useful in this matter.
Q&A:

- Why do you think she put such paper-thin policies in place to begin with? Did she expect them to work against a growing criminal element? Or does she just feel that they aren’t worth replacing with stronger policies at this point in time?
- How much strain do you think Chicago police officers are going through under Foxx’s leadership? Is there anything you’d like to tell them at this time?
- If Foxx were to leave office, who are you hoping will fill her position and guide Chicago in the right direction?
- With all the former Cook County Assistant States Attorneys that have resigned from Foxx’s office, why do you think she doesn’t understand what’s wrong with her policies? Or how it’s stretching the remaining police force thin?
