One thing that has helped turn the corner for the citizens of Ukraine is their government’s reversal, now offering them the right to private gun ownership. What kind of guns do Ukrainians have, and how are their chances against Russian troops? Helping us answer these questions and more is a representative of the Second Amendment Foundation.
Q&A:
- Until recently, gun ownership for Ukrainian citizens had been strictly regulated. What changed?
Answer: Russian invading Ukraine happened. The Ukrainian government now needs all the firepower they could muster, so they legalized private gun ownership.
- What kind of guns are private citizens in Ukraine using to defend their country against invading Russian soldiers?
Answer: Ukrainian citizens are being armed with AK-type rifles, primarily.
- But aren’t those the same firearms Biden and other anti-gunners want to be banned in the U.S.?
Answer: Yes, those are the guns. They have 20 and 30 round capacity magazines. But, of course, it would help if you had more than a 6-shooter to defend against invading Russians.
- How many of those guns are in private homes in Ukraine?
Answer: There is no way to get an accurate figure right now. Parents have been training their children to use firearms. Even great-grandmothers have been issued arms and ammunition.
- Tell us about the hypocrisy of the position of the Biden administration when it comes to self-defense.
Answer: They are helping Ukrainians with arms while pushing to deprive Americans of proper citizen defense.
- Now that the statistics tell us more about the surge in new gun owners in 2021.
Answer: These numbers are more than doubled since 2019, so how has the pandemic and covid contributed to gun ownership?

Stephen has become known across the country as the “good guy with a gun.” An experienced professional plumber, Stephen earned his license from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship School in San Antonio and has nearly 35 years of experience in his field. In 2018, Governor Greg Abbott appointed Stephen to serve on the Texas Private Security Board. In addition, he served as an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. Stephen has been married to Pam Farmer Willeford for 30 years. They have three children and three grandchildren.
