Interview guest pitch:
Jaguars coach Justifies Video of his Lewd Behavior to Women
Would it be right for you or me as a married person to touch some other woman’s behind or engage up close and personal with a lap dancer? Then why is it OK for Jacksonville Jaguars Coach Urban Meyer? Viral videos caught him in the act with a young blond woman. But when caught, Coach said it was only a speed bump not going to get in the way of his 37-year marriage.
Joining us to help determine if this is a speed bump or a land mine is Heather Carter, author of the new book “Soul-Selfie #NoFilter.”
Q&A:
- Wow, talk about a selfie with no filter! They used to say you can’t outrun the long arm of the law. Today, it’s more like you can’t get away from viral videos. Tell us what happened here.
- Are there other recent examples of embarrassing or incriminating viral videos?
- But today’s problem with social media isn’t just having unintended videos posted, but it’s more often the intentional posts and the modern obsession with posting selfies. Tell us about that.
- I understand that sometimes a person can spend so much time online that they develop tics. Remind us what happened when so many teen women were ticking up a storm from TikTok?
Answer: It’s more common for men to have tics, but it’s pretty rare for women to have tics, yet these teens had high frequencies of tics, many of who had never experienced tics before. There is something hypnotic about Tik Tok that has almost inexplicable appeal to teens, but in my opinion, it’s more of a love-hate relationship.
- Explain what you mean by a Love-Hate relationship.
Answer: A love-hate relationship is like a moth to a flame or a light at night. They don’t want to beat themselves up, but they can’t resist the light. Perhaps there’s something about the glow of the computer screens or handheld devices that lights up in an addictive way to the point where people try to stop watching, but they feel they are missing out if they stop. It’s an actual addiction.
- You cover issues similar to what we have discussed in your book, “Soul-Selfie #NoFilter” which was released in late October. Tell us about your book.
Answer: Soul Selfie #NoFilter is available on Amazon. It’s the second book in a series on breaking free from unhealthy varieties of self-absorption and covers our battles with fear, control, ego anxiety, doubt, resentment, comparison, and jealousy.
- One item you covered in Soul-Selfie is that you discovered we all struggle with what you call “the plagues of the soul.” What are those?
There you have it. Heather Carter’s book is Soul-Selfie #NoFilter and is available at Amazon.com and elsewhere.
About your interview guest, Heather Carter, in her words…
My battle with Leukemia in 2015 prompted me to capture what I refer to as “soul-selfies” — candid snapshots of my inner being. I began writing a reflective series of blog posts while in the hospital.
I write a lot about the effects of cancer, addiction, and diseases of the soul—conditions like worry, fear, control, comparison, resentment, to name a few. I am not the only one who has them. I used to worry that when my cancer went into remission, my writing would go into remission with it, but since the diseases of the soul, the ‘common plagues of the heart’ as I call them, are chronic, it seems I will never run out of material. ALL of us are affected by the disease of the soul. Being broken and vulnerable with others is what gives me hope that I can get better.
I continue to write in hopes that readers will know that they can get better too, and they are not alone in their journey.”
Heather Carter was born and raised “all over” the West Coast. Heather and her high school sweetheart husband moved to Missouri and then Illinois for college and graduate school and stayed.
In addition to being an author and speaker, the Springfield, Illinois resident is also a real estate professional and spent 20 years in ministry as a pastor’s wife. Today she and her husband are parents of three grown children.
