Trump Presiding over Agreement that Overwhelmingly Favors Hamas Terrorists
As Irael appears ready to yield to pressure being applied to it by the U.S., to reach a ‘peace deal’ with Hamas, the terms are ridiculously lopsided. Former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, David Rubin knows how this plays out, all too well. He’s seen it over and over and over again.
In fact, the terrorist who orchestrated the October 7th attacks – Yahya Sinwar – had been released by Israel in a deal similar to what is being proposed now, and that Israel is ready to accept. The terms of the latest deal call for the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for Israel releasing 1700 terrorists.
The irony in all of this, says Rubin, is that regardless of who gets credit or blame, Israel achieved much more in its fight against terrorism under the Biden administration than what a Trump administration proposes. Under the Biden administration, Israel was able to exterminate the leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah, respectively; it used exploding pagers to disable terrorist communications; it beat back terrorists in Lebanon; and it arguable laid the groundwork for the removal of Basha al-Assad in Syria.
Moreover, history has demonstrated that such uneven deals often lead to a resurgence of violence rather than long-term peace. The release of convicted terrorists in exchange for hostages has historically emboldened Hamas and other militant groups, reinforcing their belief that hostage-taking is an effective strategy. This, in turn, places Israeli civilians at greater risk, as terrorist organizations are incentivized to carry out further kidnappings, knowing that Israel will eventually be pressured into lopsided exchanges.
Rubin also points out that while Israel has achieved significant victories in its counterterrorism efforts under the Biden administration, these successes could be undermined by the current deal. The elimination of key Hamas and Hezbollah leaders was a major step in crippling these organizations, yet the mass release of terrorists could replenish their ranks and provide them with seasoned operatives ready to resume hostilities. The use of exploding pagers and other advanced intelligence tactics gave Israel a strategic edge, but a reinvigorated Hamas could adapt and develop countermeasures.
Additionally, there is concern that such concessions could weaken Israel’s deterrence posture. If Hamas perceives that international pressure can force Israel into unfavorable agreements, it may escalate its attacks in the future, believing that similar deals will be brokered again.
Former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin joins us now to discuss the matter further. He also serves as Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s fund. We welcome him to the show.
