A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation explains why change is sorely needed in the troubled government agency.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) hasn’t had the greatest year.
The agency has seen all sorts of pushback from gun groups surrounding its attempts to pass gun restrictions at the request of President Joe Biden, angering thousands of private gun owners across the United States.
But it took a step too far when it raided the home of gun owner Mark “Choppa” Manley, undeservedly bursting into his home and attempting to charge his family, despite their innocence.
According to a follow-up piece from Second Amendment Foundation spokesman Lee Williams, there have been no arrests made over the botched raid, though Special Agent Katie Rottman, who works in the city of Baltimore, insists that an investigation is ongoing.
This is the latest in a series of raids that the ATF made huge errors with, and 2025 could be the year that it faces a reshuffling for the better. It’s already been confirmed that head Steven Dettelbach will depart the agency, and all eyes are on incoming President Donald Trump to see who he will appoint to replace him.
A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss the situation further, and what we can expect from a potentially new ATF.
Q&A:
- What are your thoughts on the ATF’s actions surrounding these botched raids?
- What is probably the worst thing that the agency gets wrong when it comes to executing these raids?
- What do you think will become of Manley’s case in particular? Do you believe any arrests will be made?
- We see that Dettelbach is departing the ATF. Who do you think Trump should assign to head up the agency?
- What do you think needs to happen to the ATF as a whole in an effort to improve them?
- Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
