More Republican Women Are Becoming Gun Owners

A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation discusses the surge in gun ownership amongst this particular group.

While many states talk about the importance of gun rights, one group in particular has made their voice loud and clear – we want to own guns.

An annual report conducted by Gallup indicates that purchases of guns by Republican women are heartily increasing. 33 percent of women that follow the GOP purchased guns between 2019 and 2014. That’s a 14 point increase from 2007 to 2012, when 19 percent of the same group owned guns.

That said, when it comes to Democratic gun owners, that number has somehow dropped, particularly with men. “The rate has fallen seven percentage points among Democratic men, to 29%, and is down five points among independent men, to 39%,” the report noted. “Republican men remain the most likely gun owners among gender and party identification subgroups, at 60%.”

The report also revealed, “Meanwhile, ownership remains high among Republican men but is relatively scarce among Democratic and independent women.”

What does this say about the idea of gun ownership as a whole? A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss the report further.

Q&A:

  1. Gallup’s report indicates that gun ownership has increased amongst Republican women. Why do you think that is?
  2. Is this a matter of more women looking for self-defense measures? Or is there something else that makes them want to own guns?
  3. What about the same report revealing that there are less Democratic men that own guns?
  4. Do you believe politics could be playing a part in why less Democratic citizens own guns? Or is it something else?
  5. Where do you see the matter of gun rights going as 2025 approaches? Will Trump provide better support for gun laws as a whole, you think?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
