Governor Healey’s Actions On Bill H.4885 Have Stripped Massachusetts Citizens of Their Rights

A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America explains why private gun owners need to act on this controversial bill.

Back in late July, a new partisan anti-gun bill, H.4885, began making the rounds. It was designed to comprehensively restructure gun laws in Massachusetts, going against everything that the Second Amendment of the Constitution stood for in terms of rights.

Governor Maura Healey initially signed the bill into law back in July. However, at the time, she was unable to put it into motion, due to a 90-day waiting period for a bill to go into effect. That would enable groups, such as the Gun Owners of America, to organize an effort to gather signatures and put the law up for referendum in 2026.

Not content with waiting, however, Healey recently signed “an emergency preamble” earlier this month that puts the bill into effect immediately. As such, the referendum is no longer on the table.

As a result of this, Healey’s actions now strip Massachusetts citizens of the right to address this matter and preserve their given gun rights. So what happens now?

A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America joins us now to discuss the matter further.

Sam Parades is available to speak on this subject, serving as Executive Director of the Gun Owners of America.

Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” who serves as the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, is also available.

Q&A:

  1. Why would Gov. Healey sign the “emergency permeable” that puts the bill into effect? Was she simply impatient with the 90-day wait? Or was it something else?
  2. What does this mean for gun owners that live on the state of Massachusetts?
  3. Considering that Massachusetts – and, in particular, Boston – has seen a massive increase in crime, how dire of a situation does this bill create?
  4. Is there anything that Massachusetts citizens can do to fight back against this?
  5. You’ve often noted how Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed-Carry as some call it) can actually make streets safer during times of crisis. Explain this further.
  6. FOR STEPHEN: You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  7. FOR STEPHEN: Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
  8. Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
