Gov. DeSantis Isn’t Letting An Emergency Management Director Authorize Suspension of Gun Sales During Hurricane Milton

A Second Amendment Foundation spokesman applauds the move, believing every American has the right to ensure safety.

As Hurricane Milton prepares to bear down on the state of Florida within a matter of hours, Gov. Ron DeSantis isn’t wasting any time. He already declared a state of emergency, and has authorized thousands of workers to support where needed.

However, as part of this, he made it very clear that he has included a provision that prevents any cities from limiting any sort of gun sales. At a time when safety is of utmost concern, DeSantis deemed it necessary.

This comes after the city of Okeechobee had granted restrictions on gun sales and use just days prior, something Mayor Dowling Watford deemed “a mistake,” vowing it wouldn’t happen again.

The executive order reads, “The State Coordinating Officer shall not have the authority to suspend or limit the sale, dispensing or transportation of firearms.”

While several activists (and no doubt Democrats) have contacted DeSantis’ office in protest, the order continues to stand, allowing Americans to secure guns as needed in a time of a natural disaster.

A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss the decision further.

Q&A:

  1. First, let’s talk about what happened Okeechobee. Did the Police Chief have any right enacting any sort of gun ban on the town?
  2. Were you pleased with how quickly DeSantis acted to get the order knocked down, and telling the Mayor not to perform such an action again?
  3. Some people may argue that guns aren’t “important” in a time of a natural disaster. What would you say regarding this?
  4. If it weren’t for DeSantis’ order, do you believe the State Coordinating Officer would’ve tried to limit gun sales within the state?
  5. What are your thoughts on people trying to complain to DeSantis that he’s making a mistake at a time such as this?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
