The group discusses the recent law that “snuck” into passing, and how it violates the rights of private gun owners.
Some lawmakers will use sneaky methods when it comes to putting its provisions on gun violence into place. Like the people in Lansing, Michigan recently did.
The group recently added a gun control rule to a general school aid package, which has managed to see a passing by 98-11 in its House, with a 23-11 margin in the Senate.
The provision in question involves allocating $1 million of school funding to create a state-wide “tip support hotline” that allows students to anonymously report their parents or legal guardian should they “improperly” store firearms that are accessible to a minor. Those found guilty could be punished with jail and a fine – and potentially even a felony offense.
This not only violates the Second Amendment in terms of gun rights, but creates an unexpected divide between parents and children – interrupting the sanctity of family for the sake of questionable safety concerns.
But the Gun Owners of America aren’t resting easy on this, vowing to fight back against the provision with the help of the Second Amendment itself. A spokesman for the group joins us now to discuss the matter further.
Sam Parades, another Gun Owners of America spokesman, is available to speak on this subject, serving as Executive Director of the Gun Owners of America.
Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” who serves as the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America; and Antonia Okafor, National Director of Womens’ Outreach for the group, are also available for interview.
Q&A:
- Why do some lawmakers have to use “sneaky” methods such as this to add anti-gun provisions to official law?
- How specifically does this violate the Second Amendment?
- Couldn’t the setup of this “hotline” actually create divide within family? Like, say, a vengeful teen trying to get back at his parents wrongfully for being grounded?
- How are the Gun Owners of America fighting back against this?
- You’ve often noted how Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed-Carry as some call it) can actually make streets safer during times of crisis. Explain this further.
- FOR STEPHEN: You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
- FOR STEPHEN: Where can people find your book?
- Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
