Why the Idea of Replacement Theology Is More Dangerous Than You Think (Guest: Grant Berry)

The founder of Reconnecting Ministries explains why the Church is in such a “danger zone” when it comes to Jews as God’s chosen people.

Jewish people have not had it easy as of late.

Over the course of the past couple of years, there has been a growing hatred for Jewish people from a number of communities. Not to mention what’s happening between Israel and Hezbollah, which has not only created unrest overseas, but also in college campuses across the United States, through a number of protests and riots.

With that, Grant Berry believes that the Church may be entering a “danger zone” of sorts. The founder of Reconnecting Ministries and the host of the Romans 911 Podcast explained that replacement theology, also known as fulfillment theology and supersessionism, is taking an alternate route with the Church’s way of thinking.

So what’s the danger part? Well, it essentially suggests that the Jews are no longer God’s chosen people. The Church is under great pressure on what is happening along the Gaza Strip, to the point that it appears ready to replace the country with a completely different and distinct approach.

In a recent speech at the Pinecrest Reunion, Berry noted that the Church and its newfound rejection have created a wave of “horrific antisemitism” that is sweeping amongst many communities – hence growing the “danger zone” to a much larger effect. And the media is partially to blame for this, with Berry believing they are amplifying what he called a “great deception.”

Berry joins us now to discuss this further. For further reference, a brochure discussing the Romans 911 Project is included with this email.

Q&A:

  1. Why is there such a growing hatred for Jews as of late? Is it what’s happening in Israel, or are there other factors to consider?
  2. Do you believe the Church is feeling pressure to make a change in considering the Jews as God’s people as a result of what’s happening in Israel?
  3. Why are so many people protesting in universities and other places in favor of Palestinians? Could it be seen as an act of hatred against Jewish people? Or does it depend on what’s happening?
  4. The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah appears to be getting worse. Is there any relief in sight at this point? Do you believe a ceasefire could even be reached given what all has happened?
  5. Tell us more about the Romans 911 audiobook, as well as the Romans 911podcast.
  6. Where can we find Romans 911 and learn more about it?
    1. There are two websites: Romans911.org, which introduces the project; and our main website, ReconnectingMinistries.com.
