A representative for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms explains why a push for H.R. 2620 is good for business.
These days, shops that sell firearms see a great deal of hassle, particularly from rules within certain states that require limits to some sales. However, a new measure could provide them with some relief – at least, as far as criminals that steal from them go.
Firearms dealers lose quite a bit from theft, including thousands of dollars of revenue and weapons that could be used in other criminal acts. However, a new measure, H.R. 2620, called the Federal Firearms Licensee Protection Act of 2023, could make potential burglars want to think twice about stealing.
It alters chapter 44 of title 18, asking for higher minimum and maximum penalties for stealing guns from firearms dealers.
According to a statement from the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), “By increasing the minimum sentence for burglary to 3 years, for robbery to 5 years and the maximum from 10 years to 20 years, it helps deter criminals from stealing from firearms dealers or locks them up longer if they do.”
In turn, “This effectively helps keep guns out of the hands of criminals without infringing on our rights.”
