A representative for the Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) explains why H.R. 705 needs America’s support.
At a time when many cities are trying to pass laws to take away the rights of private gun owners, many are fighting back. And that includes giving veterans the right as well.
A bill called H.R. 705 is currently making its way through Congress. If passed, it would prohibit the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) from transmitting personally identifying information of a veteran or a beneficiary to the National Instant Crime Background Check System (NICS) utilized by licensed importers or dealers of firearms.
Some believe that, with the passing of this bill, bureaucrats would no longer be able to deem a veteran “a danger to themselves or others” for the purpose of getting personal information. For any such action to be taken against a veteran, first the finding must be made by a “judge, magistrate, or other judicial authority of competent jurisdiction”, rightly, removing bureaucrats’ power in this matter.
