California Is At It Again, Forcing Credit Card Companies To Classify Firearms Sales With Warning Codes

A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation discusses why California continues to treat private gun owners like trash.

California government continues to be sticklers to private gun owners, this time forcing credit card companies to classify sales of firearms with a special code.

According to USA Today, the state has put a merchant category code (or MCC) to keep track of certain sales – namely guns. Though the code generally “tracks the type of business where a transaction was made to determine things like tax reporting or transaction fees,” the change specifically points to keeping track of gun sales.

What’s interesting about this is that California becomes the first state requiring the code, while others, such as Tennessee, Georgia, Iowa and Wyoming, actually ban the code from taking any sort of effect.

It just goes to show that California isn’t too fond of gun owners, after putting an unfair excise tax into effect and previously trying to ban certain types of firearms.

A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation – a group that firmly believes in everyone’s right to bear arms – joins us now to discuss this coding further. We welcome them to the show.

Q&A:

  1. What does California’s requiring of a merchant category code say about its ongoing disdain against private gun owners?
  2. Why is Gov. Newsom so deadest on making life miserable for firearms sellers and buyers? Does he really feel a ban would make a difference with “active shooter” events?
  3. Other states seem to be banning the use of a merchant category code, while California requires it. What does this say about the disarray of America when it comes to gun control?
  4. Do you believe that the use of a merchant category code could result in lawsuits, should private records somehow be made public?
  5. Could California be planning other restrictions against private gun owners?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
