The Founder of Reconnecting Ministries takes a closer look at a report, which isn’t as reliable as it would like to hope.
The number of lives lost in the conflict between Israel and Hamas is devastating, especially when it comes to women and children. However, the United Nations seems focused on making that number as lessened as possible.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the group recently published the number of fatalities as reported by the Gaza Ministry of Health or the Government Media Office in Gaza and Israeli authorities, roughly 35,000. Out of those, however, it was reported that nearly 5,000 were women and almost 8,000 were children – cutting back estimates of what the numbers initially were.
While the United Nations made it clear that it has “not been able to produce, independent, comprehensive and verified casualty figures,” it is a bit concerning that these are significant drops from the previous figures – 9,500 women and over 14,500 children. And keep in mind, these reports were two days apart, between May 6 and May 8.
The UN chose to produce this report after months of accusations had been made, suggesting that numbers produced by the Gazan authorities have no way of being accurate. But now, more questions have arisen, mainly when it comes to potential manipulation.
Joining us now to discuss this further is Grant Berry, founder of Reconnecting Ministries and the author and producer of the Romans 911 project. His expertise on the matter make him a great subject for this interview. Welcome, Grant!
