A Second Amendment Foundation spokesman explains why this could help safety in schools, despite the criticism from others.
Following mass shootings that have left three children and three adults killed over the past year, Tennessee has decided to escalate safety measures in schools.
The state recently passed a law that will allow teachers and other staffers to carry guns in schools. While the passing has been met with opposition from families, many believe it is a move that will be for the better.
Several Tennessee Democrats believe the bill was an “irresponsible” move, but many others believe that this will allow for better safety, especially when it comes to responding to a potential threat by an “active shooter.” As expected those with guns would be trained on how to use them, as well as properly licensed.
Joining us now is a spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation, a group that firmly believes in the rights for those to keep and bear arms. Their expertise in guns and safety make them a great guest for this program. Welcome!

- What are your thoughts on teachers and other staff being armed in schools? Will this be a strong safety measure when it comes to fighting back against “active shooters”?
- Some believe that teachers and others being armed creates an “unsafe” situation in these schools. But aren’t “active shooters” enough of a threat for Tennessee’s law to be considered?
- Could other states potentially pass a similar law should this prove to be effective against threats?
