CHILD PROTECTION LIKE PULLING TEETH Why Groundbreaking Child Prostitution Conviction Is Not Enough (Robert Peters is in Eastern Time)

CHILD PROTECTION LIKE PULLING TEETH Why Groundbreaking Child Prostitution Conviction Is Not Enough (Robert Peters is in Eastern Time)

Image Sometimes, in the broader sense of things, even a moral victory can have an element of misfortune. This past week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Kansas City, Missouri, announced that seven defendants have been convicted “in the nation’s first-ever federal prosecution of the alleged customers of child prostitution under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.”

Finally, those paying for sex with minors are being punished right alongside those who are selling it. But, for Morality in Media President, attorney Robert Peters, it’s not enough.

Make no mistake. This conviction is a colossal moral victory, perhaps at a time when America needs it most. But it begs the question, “What has taken so long? Why does child protection, in terms of establishing legal precedent or even a collective legal outrage, seem to be such an uphill climb?”

Peters applauds the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri (pictured), but he adds, “There is one ‘front’ in the battle against child prostitution that federal prosecutors and law enforcement agencies continue to ignore . . . the proliferation of hardcore adult pornography on the Internet, (which) is contributing to sexual exploitation of children in general and child prostitution in particular.”

To prove his case about the relevance and urgency of going after adult Internet porn in the fight for child protection, Peters sites his organization’s recent report on the subject in which 40 pages are supported by more than 170 pages of appendices, spelling out layer upon layer of evidence that connects the two.

“Among other things,” Peters states, “the report shows that ‘Johns’ act out what they view in adult pornography with child prostitutes, and that pimps use adult pornography to instruct child prostitutes.”

Hear Peters’ complete and compelling case, including how the Obama administration has turned a blind eye to the issue. Plus, get his take on the recent announcement that David Ogden—someone with a record that shows he is no friend to child-protection advocates—is stepping down from his deputy attorney general position this coming February.
