WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY FACES FREE SPEECH SCANDAL: University Rescinds Grant Approved In Writing By Appropriations Committee And Finance Director
A Speaking Event to be held at Western Michigan University on March 10th 2009, which includes two former terrorists Walid Shoebat and Kamal Saleem who speak regularly on University campuses about the threat of Islamic terrorism, has been threatened with cancellation due to the pulling of grants, which were allocated by the University.
Walid Shoebat and Keith Davies are both available for interviews on this subject.
The grant of $8311 was passed 4 to 1 by the appropriations committee of the WSA (student activities administration of Western Michigan University). The grant approval was also sent in writing and signed by the finance director of the WSA. On Thursday evening Feb 19, the organizers of the event on campus received an email from the WSA revoking the grant because of a technicality.
Based on the letter signed by the WSA committee of appropriations by default the University appears to be deliberately attempting to stifle the free speech both organizers - The International Conservatives, and the speakers.
Chris McCann Chairman of the International Conservatives said “ We believe this is cynical attempt by the University administration to quash free speech on the campus by default; because they know without the grant we will have no recourse but to cancel the event, as we do not have enough time to make up the shortfall in money. As an American student organization our right of free speech is threatened; the very fundamental right and one of the very basic tenants of our constitution.”
Keith Davies Executive Director of the Walid Shoebat Foundation says, “This has been a pattern on many Universities around the country that because they either do not agree with our speakers or because of out right fear of offending certain people that obstacles like this are placed upon our speakers. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, a liberal or a conservative, free speech must be preserved or else our country will no longer be the great nation it purports to be.”
ABOUT WALID SHOEBAT…
Born in Bethlehem of Judea, Walid’s grandfather was the Muslim Mukhtar (chieftain) of Beit Sahour-Bethlehem (The Shepherd's Fields) and a friend of Haj-Ameen Al-Husseni, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and notorious friend of Adolf Hitler.
Walid’s great grandfather, Abdullah Ali Awad-Allah, was also a fighter and close associate of both Abdul Qader and Haj Amin Al-Husseini, who led the Palestinians against Israel. Walid lived through and witnessed Israel’s Six Day War while living in Jericho.
As a young man, he became a member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, and participated in acts of terror and violence against Israel, and was later imprisoned in the Russian Compound, Jerusalem's central prison for incitement and violence against Israel. After his release, he continued his life of violence and rioting in Bethlehem and the Temple Mount. After entering the U.S, he worked as a counselor for the Arab Student Organization at Loop College in Chicago and continued his anti-Israel activities.
In 1993, Walid studied the Tanach (Jewish Bible) in a challenge to convert his wife to Islam. Six months later, after intense study, Walid realized that everything he had been taught about Jews was a lie. Convinced he was on the side of evil, he became an advocate for his former enemy.
Driven by a deep passion to heal his own soul, and to bring the truth about the Jews and Israel to the world, Walid shed his former life and his work as a software engineer and set out to tirelessly bring the cause of Israel to tens of thousands of people throughout the world: churches and synagogues, civic groups, government leaders and media.
Walid has written several online books including "Dear Muslim, Let Me Tell You Why I Believed" and "Israel, And The World's Mock Trial”, where he exposes anti-Semitism and the hatred of Jews in both the Islamic Christian and secular worlds. His latest book is titled, “God’s War on Terror”
Walid is an American citizen and lives in the United States with his wife and children, under this assumed name.
