ISRAEL’S 2ND PLACE FINISHER GETS ENDORSEMENT OF 3RD PLACERTO BEAT 1ST PLACER TO BECOME PRIME MINISTER: Ahh, and we thought we had Election Troubles in Florida!
It's been said that being Prime Minister of Israel is a tough job but someone's got to do it. But the question is: Who's going to do it?" hawkish Likud Party or Tzipi Livni of the centrist Kadima Party.
The answer to that question appears to be Binyamin Netanyahu now that third place winner Avigdor Lieberman (pictured on the left) become ‘king maker’ by endorsing Netanyahu on February 19. This key endorsement allows Netanyahu to ‘trump the ace’ of first place winner Ms. Tzipni Livni--ahh, and Americans thought we had election problems in Florida!
The next step is for current Israeli Prsident Shimon Peres to meet with diverse political party representatives to form the next government. The three key parties include the right-wing Beiteinu party chaired by Avigdor Lieberman, the hawkish Likud party of Binyamin Netanyahu, and the moderate Kadima party of Tzipi Livni, who has already proclaimed that she will not sit in a Likud-led government.
Netanyahu is now being given six weeks to form a coalition government. I he fails, he will be given another six weeks, afterwhich the Peres will likely give Ms. Livni a turn at attempting to form a government. If neither side prevails, Peres might continue as Prime Minister.
Clarifying the complicated Israeli political expert Keith Davies.
During your Talk Show interview with Keith, he puts the Israeli elections in perspective and what the likely impact of the new coalition government will have on the United States, the Middle East, terrorism and in particular the currently volatile relations with Iran.
But Keith does not believe that simply because two conservatives have coalesced to form a new government that the new government will be conservative at all.
Said Davies, “I think Netanyahu will make very little difference than what we have in Israel currently. Furthermore, Netanyahu will likely succumb to pressure from Obama, which will neutralize his effectiveness as Prime Minister.”
