BACK TO SCHOOL ALTERNATIVE: Home Schooling
Summer is nearly over, and as if on cue, the national media is once again reminding parents that its time for them to send their children back to the same government schools that have repeatedly failed them in the past. For far too many children from throughout the U.S., back to school will not mean back to education, but to a curriculum that is designed to indoctrinate them in the ‘religion’ of secular humanism and statist ideology.
The real story that parents need to hear, before they send their children back for another dose of state controlled and taxpayer funded brainwashing, is that they do have an alternative to so-called public schools. The alternative that these parents need to know more about is home schooling.
The homeschool movement is here to stay. Recent headlines have documented the success of this interesting educational alternative, including homeschoolers who have won top awards in national spelling bee contests, as well as those who have achieved special honors from major colleges.
Since 1972, the Christian Liberty Academy, based in Arlington Heights, IL has been active nationally in equipping and defending those parents who are committed to the task of home teaching.
Conducting interviews on the topic of homeschooling as an alternative to public schools are co-spokesmen Mike McHugh, senior staff member of Christian Liberty Academy, and Christian Liberty Pastor Calvin Lindstrom, leaders in the modern homeschool movement.
Mike McHugh has been active over the last thirty years as a spokesman for homeschool issues. Whether the issue is how home education is changing in the twenty-first century, parental rights in education, or the reasons why government education is incompatible with a truly free society, Mike is available to address these topics, and others, on behalf of home educators.
Mr. McHugh and his wife are currently educating several children at home in the Chicago area. Mike has written a number of articles and books on the subject of homeschooling that have received national exposure and attention.
ABOUT MIKE MCHUGH…
Michael McHugh has worked in the field of Christian home education for nearly thirty years with the Christian Liberty Academy home school program based in Arlington Heights, Illinois. During his time on staff, Mr. McHugh has written several textbooks, as well as articles that seek to encourage families who are home schooling. Over the years, Mike has also had the honor to speak frequently before home school groups throughout the U.S. and abroad.
As a home school father, Mike lives in the Chicago area with his wife and seven children. His family began its home school journey in 1988.
ABOUT PASTOR CALVIN LINDSTROM…
Calvin Lindstrom has been on staff with the Church of Christian Liberty and Academy, located in Arlington Heights, IL, for over ten years. During this period of time, Mr. Lindstrom has served as a teacher and guidance counselor.
As an ordained minister and graduate of the University of Illinois, Calvin has recently taken on a new calling as pastor of the Church of Christian Liberty. One of his chief passions is to encourage parents to provide their children with a comprehensive Christian education.
Rev. Lindstrom lives in the Chicago area with his wife and young son. Both Calvin and his wife attended Christian schools, or were home schooled, prior to college.
