MOM-A-THON RACE AIMS TO SAVE 5 MILLION THIRD WORLD CHILDREN FROM DISEASE

WHO: Curamericas, a Raleigh, North Carolina charity

 

WHAT: Is hosting a Mom-a-thon virtual race to save lives of moms and children in forgotten communities in Bolivia, Guatemala, Haiti, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Kenya. Interviews available with event spokespersons upon request.

 

WHERE: Worldwide, connected by computers

 

WHEN: November 29-December 24, 2016.

 

WHY: In an attempt to save the lives of nearly 5.9 million children will not see their fifth birthday due to preventable and treatable illnesses like pneumonia and diarrhea. More than 830 mothers die each day worldwide due to treatable diseases.

Andrew Herrera, Executive Director of Curamericas:

Before joining Curamericas Global in 2009, Andrew served with the City of Raleigh, North Carolina Parks and Recreation for four years and spent a year studying in Ecuador.

In 2004 Andrew was a State Department Ambassador to Jiaonan, China through the American Field Service. He has a B.A. in Hispanic Studies and Religious Studies from East Carolina University and is currently pursuing his MPH from University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health.

As Executive Director of Curamericas Global since December 2013, Andrew has been responsible for leading strategic initiatives, assembling a Board of Directors and the daily operations of an international Nongovernmental Organization.
